This Week's Q and A On Relaxation and Massage - Slipstream Cupping Massage - A New Strategy to Reduce Cellulite

Q: How does this new cupping work, technically, to reduce cellulite and improve your health?

A: Slipstream Cupping Massage is a modern, updated version of the well-known practice of cupping therapy from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Results from this innovative treatment are impressive. Through suction and negative pressure, massage cupping releases rigid soft tissue; drains excess fluids and toxins; loosens adhesions and lifts connective tissue; and brings blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles. The fundamental therapeutic value of cupping has been documented through several thousand years of clinical experience.

Slipstream Cupping Massage has adapted traditional cupping for convenient use by massage therapists, chiropractors and even plastic surgeons. Cupping massage therapy is recommended to prepare the tissues prior to liposuction surgery as well as post surgery to speed recovery and drain excess lymph from the tissues. For those who are not interested in surgery, this treatment can breakdown cellulite and reduce the appearance of “dimples” in the skin! It is truly amazing.

Q: What does cupping feel like for the client?

A: The increased local blood supply to the muscles and skin will bring nourishment and allow for toxins to be carried away through the veins. Clients often feel deep warmth during the session and a tingling sensation long after the treatment has ended. Massage cupping is not an irritant to the skin or body. It draws the inflammation out, yet does not add to it. This technique is excellent when used as a contrast therapy with cold compresses or liniments.

Q: What kind of results can the client expect, and how quickly will results be noticeable?

A: Like any other cosmetic treatment, results will vary from person to person. Most of our clients will see an immediate change in the appearance of their skin. We recommend a series of treatments combined with a healthy diet and exercise program. A series of 2-3 treatments a week for a period of 3-4 weeks is suggested achieve the optimum results from Slipstream Massage Cupping.

Q: Who can't have cupping done, due to medical contraindications?

A: Cupping is contraindicated in cases of severe diseases, i.e. cardiac failure, renal failure, ascites due to hepato-cirrhosis and severe edema, as well as hemorrhagic diseases such as allergic pupura, hemophilia and leukemia, and clients with dermatosis, destruction of skin, or allergic dermatitis should also avoid cupping.

Certain local areas are not suitable for cupping, such as the eye, ear, nose, mouth, and areas with superficial arteries. Also, cupping should not be applied on the portion where hernia or varicose vein exists or has occurred in the past.

For pregnant women, the lower abdomen, and lumbosacral region must be avoided.

Q: How does cupping differ from mechanical devices designed to reduce cellulite?

A: The best part of a Slipstream Cupping Massage is that it can be combined or used as a supplement to a traditional massage session. Your favorite therapist can easily bring the necessary equipment to your home to use in an at home therapy session or it can be made available at your favorite spa. The results from Slipstream cups are comparable to other expensive/costly treatments that require large mechanical devices to deliver the results that you expect and want as a client!
